SUPERB CUSTOMER SERVICE -
It is my sincere hope that every REALTOR in the West Michigan Lakeshore
Association provides the best service humanly possible to all buyers
and sellers. Professional courtesies between REALTORS is also expected.
Recently, my wife and I were in Vancouver, BC on business. On a 'open'
Sunday afternoon we journeyed some 25 miles from Vancouver to Fraser
Downs Racetrack/Casino. What we experienced there was a superb example
of customer service.....permit me to explain further.
The track new we were coming since I'd previously contacted
them simply to ask about dining options and my getting into the paddock
area to talk racing with the local horsemen. Upon our arrival, we were
greeted in the parking lot by a young man driving a tram that asked
where we were headed and he then drove us to the front door of the clubhouse
to the track. Once inside, we purchased two programs only to hear later
that the track would have been happy to 'comp' them since we were kind
enough to visit from out of town. We were then escorted to a dining
room table at the window overlooking the track - great seating and viewing!
Some 5 or 6 steps behind out table were self service wagering machines
flanked by 3 live ticket sellers that were very pleasant. A hostess
and waitress attended to our dining and drinking needs and when it came
time to settle up the bill we were shocked to hear, "Oh you don't
have a bill, you're our guests from Michigan and we're happy to have
had you come visit us!" Unbelievable. During the afternoon I was
taken from the winner's circle to the paddock where I was in my glory
mixing and mingling with the Canadian horsemen/women. A bit later my
wife commented on the nice harness racing art prints that the newly
remodeled clubhouse had displayed on the walls. With that comment, our
host said "Would you like one"? and we simply asked where
to buy them.....minutes later we were presented with not one but TWO
beautiful prints at No Charge! Hey, this is a racetrack, isn't it? Can't
say we're used to this kind of attention. Making it even better, we
were picking a lot of winners that day too. The day ended with our host
asking if we had good directions back to the hotel. I stated we'd just
retrace our route that got us to the track, only to have the man write
down 'better more direct directions' on a napkin for us! Fantastic,
and yes the directions were wonderful.
So what's the point? The point is here it is several
weeks later and I'm still so impressed I am posting this and telling
people about it. Shouldn't it be like that in real estate too? Shouldn't
service to clients and customers be so great that people are overwhelmed
and tell others about it? Why not?
Here's another example - I needed to have my dress
shoes and boots shined and stopped by the shoeshine stand in the Fairmount
Vancouver Hotel. My wife was along and the man immediately offered her
a nice seat while I positioned my self on the shoeshine stand. He then
asked 'which newspaper she'd like to read' while waiting for me and
proceeded to carry on a very cordial conversation with both of us. The
name provided us with information and brochures on a number of things
we expressed interest in. Again, superb customer service.
Great service pays great dividends. The Public really deserves it.....the
REALTORS need to provide it.
